Fight Clubs
Fight Clubs involve the deepest level of trust and commitment for Renovation Church. Fight Clubs, even more than City Groups, open us to share our lives, our struggles, our fears, and doubts; and to keep us accountable. The name Fight Club was chosen because of the nature of sin, and the fight it takes to overcome those things we’ve done and those things done to us.
This is where the grittiness of discipleship happens. Fight Clubs are relationally driven groups of 3-4, men or women, that are not programmed, but happen within the bounds of everyday life. Fight Clubs will receive training as well as spiritual and relational support from the Elders.
Discipleship
- Remind each other of our new identity in Jesus Christ (a worshiper, an adopted son/daughter, an ambassador of reconciliation, a servant of Father God, an agent of cultural influence and change).
- Gospel one another, teaching each other to obey Jesus’ commands (Matthew 28:18-20; Colossians 3:15-17).
- Encourage one another toward good works in bearing Gospel fruit (Ephesians 4:11-3).
Nurturing
- Listen intently to one another and the Holy Spirit so that we can direct each other to truth (John 16:7-15).
- Ask real questions about each other’s lives: How are you doing? Are you loving your wife well? Are you loving your family well? What are your heart’s idols? In what areas are you living in fear? Do you have joy? What can we celebrate with you? What are you struggling through (Romans 12:10,15)?
- Pray with, and for, each other (Romans 12:12; Ephesians 6:18; James 5:16).
Accountability
- Encourage each other to live out what we believe through making goals and helping each other fulfill them (Hebrews 10:24-25).
- Review the past week and how faithful we have been in keeping our word and living out the Word.
- Speak the truth in love as we see areas of sin in our lives and each other’s lives (Ephesians 4:14-16), correcting and rebuking with God’s Word when necessary (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Starting a Fight Club
Express your interest to your City Group leader and ask them to help you get into a Fight Club.
Find friends where you live, work, or recreate who want to form a Fight Club, and run that by your City Group leader or an elder.
